Starting Your Search

 
There are a number of reasons why people decide to start a search for a new position.  Each are personal to you which is why you should start with finding answers to questions you need to ask yourself. This will help you build a “wish list” for you next opportunity.  As you begin your search, your expectations may change based on your experiences as well as the existing market conditions.

 

 

1)     How long have you been considering making a change and why?

 

2)     What’s missing in your current position or last position that you hope to find in a new opportunity?

 

3)     What size company will you thrive and perform at your best? 

 

4)     Do you want to move to the next level in your career or leverage your experiences and build a deep more expanded role/position, learn a new market or technology?

 

5)     Are you excited about going to a new opportunity or leaving where you are now?

 

6)     How important is the type of product or service and the customer it targets?

 

7)     Is it important to have an office to go to or are you comfortable working virtually from a home office?

 

8)     How important is commute in your search?

 

9)     Which experiences have been the most exciting and challenging in your career so far and why?       

 

10) Do you want to own the entire process from creation to execution or do you fit better in a specific role in the process?

 

11) What do you want to learn and how do you want to grow in this next position?  Are you looking for a manager who will also be a mentor? 

 

12) Who were the best managers you ever worked for and how did you grow from that experience?

 

13) Is your resume up-to-date and does it represent your experiences as well as your accomplishments?  Is it clear what position you are seeking? 

 

14) Can you describe the culture within a company you best fit?

 

15) Have you made the decision to leave your current company if you find the right opportunity?
